On December 14, 2016 SJI met over 20 non-formal (NFE) teachers from the east and 2 officials from the Education Ministry. While the focus was on waste management (especially craft making), SJI stressed on the multiple role that the teachers could potentially assume in community development.

Apparently, Dewathang is NFE’s birthplace. A group of volunteer teachers from Dewathang primary school started NFE (under the auspices of NWAB – National Woman’s Association of Bhutan- Dewathang Chapter) on the demand of local women farmers.
