Concerned over youth unemployment, rural-urban migration and growing import of food, an unusual leader of the gewog is leading the community in making Chorkorling prosperous, economically, socially and spiritually. The community has planted winter vegetables (6 acres) and is now preparing a 50 acre field to cultivate tapioca. Ministry of Agriculture & Forests is supporting the big initiative. A team has already been nominated from the village to manage the mega program for sustainability. SJI visited the gewog on November 27,2016 and shared its own experiences and potential risks and challenges with the people.
Chhokhorling, otherwise a quite and a hidden land, is today buzzing with more people and activities. Popularly known as Kulicatta, it is a gewog under Pemagatshel district. It has 235 households with a population of 1854; it is about 144.86 square kilometers (source from internet). It shares borders with Dewathang (can spot JNEC and CGI from there) on the east and Assam on the south.
