Inauguration of Dungsam Community Seed Bank – Enhancing Food Security

Logically, food security directly hinges on seed security. An important question to ask is, is the ownership of seed slowly slipping from the traditional custodians – the farmers? Seed is an asset of the farming community; it is their right to own, grow, save and exchange (seed sovereignty).

With the establishment of Community Seed Bank at Chokyi Gyatso Institute (CGI) who has generously offered the land, farmers from two pilot gewogs (Dewathang and Orong) are expected to revive, preserve and promote their lost traditional cereals.

Inauguration was graced by Drubgyud Tenzin Rinpoche and Khenchen Sonam Tashi from Chokyi Gyatso Institute.
